Bitcoin and The Richest Man in Babylon

Bitcoin vs Fiat

Bitcoin is interesting because it can't be obtained through monetary manipulation. There is no way to print more and thereby game the system for free money. This naturally incentivizes (or even forces) an individal to produce economic value in exchange for Bitcoin.

Fiat's ability to simply dilute the money supply shortcuts that idea and incentivizes bad behavior.

Hard Money

When faced with hard money (money that cannot be easily created), the lessons in the book "The Richest Man in Babylon" become amplified significantly.

  • Start thy purse to fatten - with hard money this requires creating economic value.
  • Control thy expenditures - without dilution of the money supply, any unspent monies carry beautifully across time and saving is incentivized.
  • Make they gold multiply - when you have hard money, this becomes a top priority as money is not easily obtainable. Getting your money to birth its own children becomes a miracle and godsend to the person who accomplishes this and incentivizes honest well-researched investments.
  • Guard thy treasure from loss - even more important when simply HODLing creates value.

Whether or not Bitcoin is the end-all be-all of money is yet to be seen, but the lessons being learned on the value of sound money are of significant value and will be discussed for generations.
